Crispy was a Danish Bubblegum eurodance act founded in 1997 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Their first (and only) album, The Game, includes catchy, fun, candy-coated dance songs about tropical beaches, dinosaurs, and video games. Crispy are probably most well-known for their hit single "Licky Licky", and their 1999 hit "In & Out," both for which a music video was filmed.

Mette Christensen, the lead vocalist of Crispy, sadly passed away in October 2005. After battling sickness for many years, she was not well enough to continue with the Crispy project, and a new vocalist (Gry Bay) was briefly introduced to take her place. However, the Crispy project was eventually stopped as the other band members decided not to continue with it, and went on to focus on solo projects of their own.

In 2017, Christian Møller sent a friend of Bubblegum Dancer's, Cesar Supernova, a collection of unreleased Crispy demos. A whopping 19 tracks were salvaged from the CDs and uploaded to the world via YouTube.

Members

Crispy consisted of four members:

• Mads B.B. Krog (sometimes credited Mads B.B. Krogh). Mads helped write Crispy's songs with Christian and was the group's main producer.
• Mette Christensen. Mette was the group's main vocalist and also helped write the song "Love Is Waiting" which featured on The Game.
• Christian Møller. Christian was Crispy's main song writer, wrote most of the silly lyrics, and also supplied the male backup vocals.
• Gry Bay. Gry Bay joined XPY after Mette's passing as the main vocalist.

1st Album & Success

The Game was recorded and mixed in Denmark, Sweden and Germany. Several versions of the album were released, the most common being the 12-track release. The Japanese version of the album also contained four exclusive bonus tracks, including two previously unreleased songs "Bad Girls" and "Happy King". The Taiwanese version was released in 2000 and includes bonus remixes and a special slip case. See the Discography section for more information.

Crispy was very successful in Scandinavia and Asia. They were awarded with the "Pop Shop Award '98" for Best Scandinavian Debut Release, beating 15 other nominees.

History / Band Information

The year 1998 ended in success for the Danish pop/dance trio crispy. Holding dance chart top 20 positions for 10 consecutive weeks and now starting to climb again with the RMX`'s of "Licky Licky", the band has founded a solid base on the Danish pop/dance scene.

During Christmas Crispy were on promotion/concert tour in Japan, visiting Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. This tour was indeed a success. The success of the band is virtualised, when visiting one of their concerts, playing for big and enthusiastic crowds singing along. Crispy has since Spring 1998 been touring continuously and have by now had well over 150 concerts.

Crispy was award with the national Danish Radio "Pop Shop Award 98" for best Scandinavian debut release in 1998 among 15 nominees. This of course was highly appreciated. At the price giving Crispy performed with 5 songs live on the national radio.

To follow up the success, the next single "love is waiting"(With new radio and club mixes from Pierre J - (Emilia, Meja, Dr. Alban etc.) was released in February simultaneously all over Scandinavia. In Germany the current single "Kiss Me Red" (produced by Kai Mathiesen - Mr. President, Scatman etc.) was released at the end of January. Hawing performed in several TV shows, and being covered in leading Germany youth/music magazine BRAVO, things are looking to turn out well for Crispy.

In March Crispy had their debut release in Holland. This release was simultaneous with the release of the second single in Germany.

2005: Mette passes

According to her mother who contacted Bubblegum Dancer, Mette passed away in October of 2005, after battling sickness for many years. In 2021, Bubblegum Dancer created an exclusive CD called The Unreleased Collection, and only two versions of this album exist in the world, one of them having been sent to Mette's mother, Hanne. Let the legacy of Mette Christensen live on forever in the hearts (and ears) of fans all around the world.

Plans for a Second Album

The overall success of Crispy's first album, "The Game", lead the group to prepare for a second album, which they hoped to release sometime in 2000. A huge number of tracks were recorded, many of them even finished, but the release of the album was canceled, most likely due to the diminishing health of lead vocalist Mette.

Below is a list of Crispy songs known to have been recorded as demos, but to this day remain unreleased.

2017 demo discovery

In 2017, a friend of Bubblegum Dancer's, Cesar, made contact with Crispy's male vocalist, Christian Møller, who generously sent him 3 CD's of early Crispy demos recorded circa 1999.

Devoted to Mette's memory, Christian wanted Cesar to share the songs publicly on YouTube so they would reach the biggest audience possible. Although the CDs were badly damaged with their old age - one CD so deeply scratched it was practically see-through - amazingly all of the songs except one (Whoops!!) were ripped successfully at good quality.

A whopping 19 songs were salvaged from the CDs, including several early bubblegum songs that sound like they could have been left-overs from "The Game." There is also an early demo of "In & Out," Crispy's next big single after "The Game" which initially moved their style away from bubblegum dance to a more trance-style that can be heard in their later demos mentioned above.
