Baby Alice
Baby Alice is a Swedish Eurodance and bubblegum dance band, formed in 2005. The original band members are Tim Åström, Andreas Svensson, and Hanna Adolfsson. They are best known for their hit single, "Piña Colada Boy," officially released in 2010.
The female vocals were provided by Hanna Adolfsson from 2005–2009 and stage performance was provided by Sandra Gundstedt (also known as Sandra Gee). Natalie Granath took over both vocals and stage performance from 2010–2015.
In 2016, original studio vocalist Hanna Adolfsson returned to Baby Alice, taking on the frontwoman position with their new single "Naked", however, Hanna left the group in the fall of 2016 and new member My Hoglund was announced.
Musical style
Baby Alice has experimented with many different sounds over the years, but are most well-known for their eurodance and bubblegum dance/pop tunes. While their music style might be considered by some as too "eurodance" to be considered a bubblegum dance project, we feel that we can make an exception for the group, particularly since they are planning on taking their style in a more "bubblegum direction" in the future.
Releases
Baby Alice has had a very convoluted history with their music releases, with many of their songs either not seeing an official release, being given away for free on their official Website, or being shelved for many years before getting remade and released digitally years later.
Their first single was "Shake It" released in 2006 through the now-defunct record label House of Scandinavia (which is famous for publishing a great deal of well-known bubblegum dance artists, including Miss Papaya and Hit'n'Hide). Their first song was actually "The House Theme" which was recorded in 2005 before Sandra was a member. A free download was made available online as a radio edit. A single was announced on Baby Alice's website in 2007, but it never made it to site player and the song was never officially released. Also in 2005 the songs "Monstertruck" and "Silicon Valley" were recorded, and were available as free downloads on their Website. Monstertruck was the first song of Baby Alice's to feature a music video, although it was never released.
In 2006 they recorded the songs "Size Matters" and "VM-Feber," both available as free mp3 downloads. The later was remade and officially released as a single in 2018. In 2007 they released the high energy eurodance single "Mr. DJ." Their next single was meant to be the song "Mambo" which was due to be released as a single in 2008 but was later canceled. The song was later released on compilations and two versions of the song exist (a Radio Edit with Sandra's vocals and a Euro Radio Edit with raps). The next single "Oldschool" was announced in April 2008, but was instead the single was uploaded for free download on babyalice.se as a gift to the fans in 2009. "Oldschool" was finally released as a digital single in 2015. In 2009, Baby Alice returned with the single "Hurricane," and an accompanying music video was also released for the song.
In 2010 the single "Piña Colada Boy" was released and would become Baby Alice's best-known song, and their most bubblegum in style. The song was originally recorded by Hanna Adolfsson in 2008, but the video was recorded 2 years later featuring Natalie as the main character. Despite popular belief, Hanna is the real singer on "Pina Colada Boy", although Natalie appears as the singer in the video, which was shot only a few weeks after she joined. Natalie's first appearance on vocals with Baby Alice is with the song "S.E.X.Y", which despite being planned as the next release in 2011, was instead only leaked online in 2013 when it was uploaded to their official YouTube page as a gift to their fans. Baby Alice released "Heaven is a dancefloor" in 2011 with Natalie on the vocals. "S.E.X.Y" was finally released as a digital single in 2015, without any of the remixes that had been planned for its 2011 release.
"One World," which was originally announced as a single back in 2012 and previewed on Baby Alice's YouTube channel, was delayed and finally released as a digital single in 2015, with a 90's Edit version being released as a separate single alongside it. This is also the last release to feature Natalie.
In 2016 Baby Alice returned with a new summer song titled "Naked", which they considered to be a follow-up to their hit single "Pina Colada Boy" from 2010. "Naked" is also their first new song since Natalie's departure and Hanna becoming their new member in 2016. In 2018 they released a new version of "VM-Feber" in support of the Swedish national team in 2018. Though not the first Baby Alice song to not feature female vocals, it's the first Baby Alice official release to be only sung by Tim and Andreas.
In 2020, Baby Alice released their new single "Woff," a Little Red Riding Hood inspired dance song with funky accordion instrumentals.
