Caramell
Caramell is a Bubblegum dance project from Sweden, consisting of members Malin, Katia, Jorge "Vasco" Vasconcelo, and Juha "Millboy" Myllylä. The idea for Caramell was inspired by Aqua, who at the time was taking the world by storm. The members decided to sing their music in their native language Swedish, so as not to steal Aqua's limelight.
Caramell's first singles "Om Du Var Min" and cover "Efter Plugget" were quite big hits in Sweden. The band's debut album Gott Och Blandat was released in August, 1999. Their second album, Supergott, was released in 2001.
Brief History
Jorge, who had originally written for other groups such as La Cream ('You') and Dr Alban ('This Time I'm Free'), decided to establish a studio of his own in Västerås and left Dr. Records, Vasco & Millboy Productions. He and his friend Juha soon met Malin and Katia in November 1998 in a karaoke bar in Stockholm, Sweden, where they soon decided to form the group Caramell.
Popotan "Caramelldansen" Looping Flash
A Web site dedicated to a Looping flash animation with Mai and Mii from the visual novel Popotan played to a sped-up version of "Caramelldansen" has since become an internet phenomenon, and increased popularity with Caramell. As a result, Caramell are most well-known for the song "Caramelldansen."
Caramell has gone on to embrace the internet phenomenon surrounding "Caramelldansen" by releasing a number of speedy remixes of their popular songs. In 2008, the album "Supergott" was re-released to feature the Japanese "Speedycake" remixes. Later, Caramell will see a revamp with a new Japanese lineup, and be renamed "Caramella Girls."
