Yulia
Yulia (real name: Yulia Lisovichenko) a bubblegum dance project from Spain best known for her 2004 single "Paela Mama."
Biography
Born in Siberia in the city of Nizhnevartovsk, in a family of lawyers, from her early years Yulia Lisovichenko has shown a great interest in music. At the age of 6 she began taking classes of piano as well as of classic and contemporary ballet.
After having lived in several cities of Russia she moves to Portland, USA to continue with her studies. There she sang as a leading singer in a choir of a reputed evangelic church and participated as an actress in numerous school theatre plays.
When she came back to Russia she settled in Moscow and graduated from Moscow State University of International Relations, faculty of International Business and Business Administration, achieving a Golden Diploma- a privilege reserved to a reduced number of Russian students.
During the years of her studies she participates in the plays of the Spanish Theatre of the RussianUniversity and forms part in the Latin American Culture Club of the same University, and it was there where her passion for the Latin music and everything it involves began.
In 1996 she started to dance salsa and in 1998 won the first place in Moscow International Salsa Championship and the second place in the International Salsa Contest held in Stockholm, Sweden. She made Latin dance shows in discotheques and gave classes of salsa in Moscow, improving her vocal technique meanwhile.
At the same time she started travelling to Spain to improve her Spanish skills in the Universities of Salamanca and Madrid until 1999 when she definitely moves to Spain, choosing Barcelona as her residence.
In this city she contacts with Cuban and Latin-American music bands, becoming a leading vocalist of several of them and almost immediately starts to work in the world of TV publicity and recording studios where she singsas a back vocal singer for various artists as well as a leading singer in several advertising jingles for the national television.
From that point she initiates her recording career forming part of a group “Blue Bombay” that carries on a successful advertising campaign of an important beer brand “Esrtella Damm” with the song “You’re sixteen.”
Then she starts her career as a soloist writing her own songs, something she’s been doing for several years but had never considered to take on a professional level. One of her songs –“Viva la noche” is claimed by Gest Music and Vale Music to be performed by Ainoa in a TV show OT (Operación Triunfo), becoming a great success and number one in sales.
Later on under the artistic name of “Russia” she publishes her first album with “Viva la noche” as a main single. Almost all of the songs on this album were composed by the singer herself in different languages (Spanish and English).
One year later under the name of “Yulia” she becomes the main figure of the advertising campaign of another important beer brand “San Miguel”, composing and performing the hit song “Paela Mama” that climbs up to number 3 on the AFYVE sales chart and stays in the chart for 9 weeks.
Her next work – a single “Arriba el mundo” composed and performed by the singer has been selected to participate in a Spanish Television Contest EUROVISION 2005: “Choose our song”, and became one of the finalists. The song “Arriba el Mundo” enters the AFYVE sales chart and positions itself between highest selling songs in Spain.
