Eurobeat is a style of dance music that originated in Europe, and "Bubblegum Eurobeat" is a term coined by fans to describe happy, cheesy, and often childish eurobeat music. There are two types of Eurobeat, British and Contemporary, and Bubblegum Dancer catalogs the latter. Eurobeat is a hi-NRG form of Italo Disco, and is often influenced by house, techno and Eurobeat.
Eurobeat is very popular in Japan, and the majority of modern Eurobeat is produced in Italy. The Japanese Para Para dance culture is also very influenced by Eurobeat, and Eurobeat music often accompanies anime, which popularised the genre in the USA.
Please note that at this stage Bubblegum Dancer does not catalog very much happy hardcore music, but we are expected to expand this genre into our database eventually so expect this section to grow.
Production & style
Eurobeat is generally distinguished by a very high tempos, ranging from as low as 138 BPM to as high as 170-185 BPM. There is a huge emphasis on melody, with vocals usually sung by a female, and the lyrics are often simple, cheesy, and sometimes nonsensical. A distinctive synth style is used in production that makes heavy use of distorted and detuned sawtooth waveforms, as well as electrical guitars.
