Hands Up (also known as Dancecore in East Europe) is a subgenre of Eurodance. The genre comes from its name, meaning music that requires listeners to "put their hands up”, and focuses on danceability.

The genre originated in Germany in the mid to late 1990s and in the early years of the following decade, where it developed from Eurodance and various other dance genres such as happy hardcore and techno. The genre’s popularity was revived by Cascada in 2004 with the release of the single “Everytime We Touch”.

Production & style

Hands Up production is most recognisable for its use of synthesisers, and often the vocal melodies are accompanied by a synthesiser for impact. Hands Up is based on the typical verse-chorus-pop music scheme, and the main elements used are the baseline, drums and a catchy lead sound.
